Part of a series of work titled Behind These Mountains (2025). Every piece contains a story connected to the Sierra Occidental Mountain range in between Northern Mexico and the Southwestern U.S. Photos of the deceptively scenic mountains cover each painting in which an audience was invited to peel away in a symbolic performance.
Migrant Women (2025) is a figurative piece inspired by the conflicts that surround the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range. I remember when I first discovered these mountains from a photograph in a news article. Women and children lined up next to a wall in the dry desert. The mountains were in the distance; a sight of bucolic solitude. Stoic. Majestic beauty. Yet their presence overshadowed a gritty scene of chaos and despair.
